What’s in the box?

Everything you need to start playing today:

  • The Retro Portable in your chosen colour
  • microSD game card with the games, already fitted
  • USB charging cable
  • User guide

It charges from a standard 5V USB plug, which isn’t included. You almost certainly have one in a drawer.

Why will I love it?

Because the games you grew up with deserve a bit more room. There’s no account, no downloads and no waiting around. Press the power button, and moments later you’re choosing a game from your childhood.

The wide screen pulls you in, the sticks sit naturally in both hands, and suddenly it’s an hour later.

How is it different from The Retro Gameboy?

Think of it as the big brother. The Retro Portable has a 5.48-inch AMOLED widescreen display and glowing ring lights around its sticks, for when you want a bigger view of every game.

The Retro Gameboy has a classic upright shape and a 3.5-inch screen. Both come with 15,000+ games, so it’s really about how you like to play.

Will it keep me busy on a long trip?

Very much so. Every game is on the memory card, so it plays offline on planes, trains and anywhere the signal gives up. There’s no Wi-Fi to find and nothing to download before you leave.

It plays for up to around 8 hours on one charge. Simpler 8-bit and 16-bit games use less power, and a lower screen brightness makes it last longer.

Is it a good gift?

It’s a lovely one for anyone who still talks about the games they grew up with. The games are already on it, so there’s nothing to set up on the big day. Just charge it first.

Delivery takes 10 to 12 days, so please order in good time.

House Rules

Everything you’d want to know before you bring the big brother home.

Level 1: What you get

What will it actually do for me?

It gives you back the games you grew up with, on a screen big enough to really enjoy them. Press power, and moments later you’re choosing a game, wherever you are.

How is it different from The Retro Gameboy?

It’s the big brother. The Retro Portable has a 5.48-inch AMOLED widescreen display and glowing ring lights around its sticks. The Retro Gameboy has a classic upright shape and a 3.5-inch screen. Both come with 15,000+ games.

Which colour should I pick?

Black or white. They play exactly the same, so go with the one that makes you smile.

What’s in the box?

The console, a microSD game card with the games already fitted, a USB charging cable and a user guide. You’ll need a standard 5V USB plug, which isn’t included.

Do I need Wi-Fi, an app or an account?

No. It plays offline, with no app, no account and no subscription. The games are already on the memory card.

Level 2: Playing

What’s so good about an AMOLED screen?

Every tiny point on the screen makes its own light, so black looks properly black and colours really stand out. Dark levels and bright pixel art both look great on it.

How many games are on it?

More than 15,000 across 21 emulators, from arcade classics to 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit favourites. You can browse by system, jump to a random game or search by name.

Can I save my game?

Yes, at any moment. Hold FN and press R1 to save, then FN and L1 to go back to that exact spot. Dinner’s ready? Your game can wait.

How long does the battery last?

Up to around 8 hours on a full charge, depending on the game and your settings. Simpler 8-bit and 16-bit games use less power than 3D ones, and a lower screen brightness makes it last longer.

How do I charge it?

Use the USB cable from the box with a standard 5V USB plug or a computer. If it doesn’t charge from a fast laptop or phone charger, a simple 5V plug will do the job.

What do the glowing rings do?

They’re there to look good. The rings around the sticks are purely decoration and don’t change how the sticks work.

Can I play it on my TV?

It’s made for your hands, not the telly. If you’d like to play on the big screen with two wireless controllers, have a look at the RetroParlour Classic.

Can two people play together?

The Retro Portable is made for playing on your own. For two players on one sofa, the RetroParlour Classic is the better choice.

Can I add my own games?

Yes, games you have the right to use can be added with a computer and a microSD card reader. The guide shows you how.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes, with a grown-up nearby. Children aged 6 to 14 should play with adult supervision, and small parts and packaging should be kept away from children under 3.

Level 3: Delivery and returns

How long does delivery take?

Delivery takes 10 to 12 days and comes with tracking. More about delivery.

How much does delivery cost?

UK delivery is free.

Is it a Christmas present?

Please allow the full 10 to 12 days, and order early if it needs to be under the tree.

What if I change my mind?

You have 30 days to return it for free. How returns work.

Level 4: Warranty and help

What does the 2-year warranty cover?

If your console develops a fault within 2 years of delivery, email support@retroparlour.com and we’ll sort it with a repair, a replacement or your money back. This doesn’t affect your statutory rights.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. Payments are encrypted and handled by certified payment providers. We never see or store your card details.

Who am I buying from?

RetroParlour is run by BADABING PAY LTD, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ. Company number 17553169.

How do I get help?

Email support@retroparlour.com and a real person will get you playing again.
